NEMO is a personal project to create a modern take on the 2000s era flip phones (or in this case, "candy bar" style phones). Even with recent newcombers in the space, I think there's room for a small hobbyist to break into this space (in addition to Sky's Edge's awesome project!) I've given the project some room the past couple years while too involved with school and work but I've learned a lot. Here are some of the design and preliminary marketing ideas for the product. On the technical side of the project I focused first on packaging of the product and quickly realized the display is the real driver for any interactive electronic product. After settling on the Sharp Memory LCD line of displays for their quirky low-power nature, I found there were limited display drivers available. So, after some playing around with STM32 and other options I settled on learning some good ol' VHDL and create an FPGA display driver. First time for everything, right?
